Ethical Funding Statemant

Learning for a Sustainable Future is a registered Canadian charity.

Learning for a Sustainable Future is committed to engaging with partners who are working toward a sustainable future. To protect the interests of our organization, our program participants, and our world, LSF has an Ethical Funding Policy to guide our donation receipt and partnership decisions.

LSF will not accept funding from the alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, weapons/arms, pornography, coal, oil and gas industries, nor will LSF grant board membership to any representatives of these industries.

Learning for a Sustainable Future work is entirely reliant on donations. To protect the interests of our organization, our program participants, and our world, LSF has an Ethical Funding Policy to guide our donation decisions.

When it comes to sustainability, we wish to avoid supporting or working with any organization that is working against our overall aims. We use published sustainability assessment research (such as Corporate Knights Global 100, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, Social Index Fund, etc.) to guide our decision making.

Our Ethical Funding Policy states that LSF will not accept funding from the alcohol, tobacco, and weapons/arms industries.

Current LSF partners include resource extraction industries (e.g. oil, gas, forestry, mining). Currently our world remains dependent on these industries for transportation, agriculture, heat, power, and many consumer products. Even as our reliance on fossil fuels decreases, our dependence on mining industries will only grow as they supply the elements for solar panels, wind turbines and rechargeable batteries. Many oil and gas companies, recognizing the economic shift away from fossil fuels, are among those investing most heavily in research and development of renewable technologies. LSF is committed to engaging with these partners in a manner that supports the overall pursuit of a sustainable future.

LSF’s mission is to help students learn to address the increasingly difficult economic, social, and environmental challenges of the 21st century. To do so, LSF actively engages with companies and governments of all political views to help foster and influence positive education policies and practices in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. We are all in this together and we see this as an integral part of modelling the complexities of creating a more sustainable future.
