In Memory of Susan Langley
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Langley on January 8th after a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was a member of the Board of Directors of Learning for a Sustainable Future from 1996, serving as Vice-Chair from 2006-2017 and Chair of the Board from 2017-2022. Under her leadership and wise counsel, LSF has impacted policy makers, educators and youth across Canada.
Susan Langley was a lifelong champion of public education. She worked with the Peel District School Board for 28 years as a teacher, vice principal and principal. She served as Executive Director of the Ontario Curriculum Clearinghouse, Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation, National Manager of The Learning Partnership consultant, and worked as a consultant with Directions Evidence and Policy Research Group LLP.
Susan has served on the many boards including the Board of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and as its Chair. Susan was also Chair of the OISE/UT Advisory Board.
In 2008 Susan received an Honourary Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine for her contributions to the College and the Profession. Susan also received the 2003 Canadian Teachers’ Federation Special Recognition Award for Meritorious Service to Education.
LSF has established the Susan Langley Excellence in Sustainability Teaching Fund to honour Susan’s passion and commitment to education and sustainability. The Susan Langley Excellence in Sustainability Teaching Fund will continue Susan’s important legacy in “empowering our children to change the world”.
